Richard Burt

Portrait of Richard Burt.

Biography:Richard Burt, aged 51, has forged a reputation as one of the region's most experienced and effective politicians and campaigners since joining the party in 1996. He was Campaign Manager for Matthew Green when he was elected MP for Ludlow in 2001, and Constituency Organiser for Shrewsbury & Atcham Liberal Democrats for two years. He has also twice been a general election candidate and was LibDem Group Leader on Dudley MBC for six years. He fought the 2005 general election and doubled the Shrewsbury vote to 23%. Richard is married to Lorely (who is the Lib Dem MP for Solihull) and has a son, James and step-daughter Emma. Richard has served the party in many capacities over the past eight years. He has been Vice-Chair of the Region and Regional Media Coordinator. He is currently a member of the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors and was asked to act as a council campaign team mentor. Richard is also a member of Amnesty International, Liberal International and Ethnic Minorities Liberal Democrats. He is a founder member and trustee of the Association for Shared Parenting, keeping children in contact with both parents after separation or divorce. Outside interests include road and fell running and rugby. Richard has finished in the top 200 in the London Marathon and has been Vice-Chairman of a national league rugby club. Richard has also held a private pilots licence.
