We regret to inform that Jo Harrison, Liberal Democrat candidate for South Staffordshire has sadly passed away

11.49.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 1st May 2005

Jo Harrison, Liberal Democrat candidate for South Staffordshire, has died following a short illness. In a short statement the party's chief executive, Chris Rennard, said "Jo has been ill for some weeks and will be sadly missed. Our sympathies go out to her family."

Jo, 53, died at her home in Kinver on Saturday morning. As a result of her death, the constituency election on Thursday will be abandoned and a by-election will be called next month.
