KEETCH ELECTED CHAIR OF LIBERAL INTERNATIONAL

Paul Keetch, Member of Parliament for Hereford has been announced as the new Chairman of the British Group of Liberal International.

Commenting on his election, Mr Keetch said:

"I am delighted to be the new chairman of British Group of Liberal International. The organisation has proved over the years to be stalwart in promoting a better understanding of international liberal issues beyond the confines of the European Union."

"I look forward to working with Liberal and Democratic parties and other sister organisations throughout the world. I am keen to assist and help as much as I can with newly-formed liberal groupings in these countries, particularly in their transition towards better governance and respect for human rights."

"It is a great privilege to be playing a pivotal role in strengthening liberal democracy around the world."

He also paid tribute to outgoing chairman Sharon Bowles MEP:

"Sharon Bowles has proved to be a dedicated and meticulous Chairman and wish her all the best in her new role in the European Parliament."
