Test results are no guarantee of permanent improvement - Davey

Commenting on the latest national test results for 11 year olds, Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary, Edward Davey MP said:

"Any improvement in basic standards is welcome. But a few percentage points increase in results is no guarantee of a permanent improvement in literacy or numeracy.

"The pressure of league tables means that schools are teaching to the test rather than concentrating on delivering the best all-round education.

"Worryingly, promising results at 11 have not been sustained when pupils take tests again at 14. It is poor progress in literacy and numeracy once pupils enter secondary school that are of most concern."
