Solihull's LibDem MP, Lorely Burt has been nominated for a prestigious national award during her first term in parliament! Mrs Burt has been nominated by the national charity, the Association of Garden Trusts for a 'Charity Champions Award' for her recent Bill, presented in the House of Commons, to protect parkland and preserve gardens from windfall development.

"We are very pleased that Lorely has taken up the challenge on this thorny issue which affects all our 36 county gardens trusts across the country," said Trusts Administrator, Kate Harwood. "Some of our members have alerted their local MPs and asked them to support Lorely's Bill at it's second reading."

The annual Charity Champions Awards have been received by top politicians including the Chancellor, Gordon Brown in recent years.

The Charity Champions Awards honour the hard work, time and effort devoted by MPs and Peers to charitable causes during the parliamentary year.

Run by politics website ePolitix.com, they offer a rare occasion for charitable causes to have their voice heard and to demonstrate the strong relationship between parliamentarians and the voluntary sector.

"I am delighted and honoured to have been nominated for this award during my first term in parliament. If it helps promote my Bill to safeguard parkland and gardens for all, then it will have been worthwhile," said Mrs Burt.

A shortlist for the awards will be announced on 12th September.
