Give support to schools not power to Whitehall - Brooke11.38.36am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 12th Sep 2005 In response to proposals unveiled by Education secretary Ruth Kelly to force schools to publish individual student performance in each subject area, Lib Dem Education spokesman Annette Brooke said:
"We obviously need to ensure that all our children can reach their full potential. But these proposals represent the worst sort of Whitehall interference and amounts to micro-managing on a quite ridiculous scale. We need to equip our schools and empower our headteachers to make these sort of judgments - and provide quality feedback to parents - without such a level of meddling by Westminster politicians
