Local Member of Parliament supports moves to protect animal welfare7.21.00pm GMT Thu 24th Nov 2005 Solihull MP Lorely Burt has supported parliamentary moves to protect animal welfare, by signing two Early Day Motions. Lorely Burt said "83% of GP in a recent survey said they would welcome an independent scientific review of all animal testing. I fully support such calls - there is no place for animal testing in a civilised 21st Century society where other alternatives are available." Early Day Motion 92 submitted by a Liberal Democrat MP calls upon the Government to review commission an independent evaluation of animal testing for medical research. Early Day Motion 341 supports the creation of a "welfare offence" which requires a duty of care towards animals. Lorely added "Last year 3 neglected horses were found with hooves more than 14 inches long. A specific offence of neglect towards animals will give them greater protection."
