Cameron speech on social justice a bit rich - Cable

12.00.00am GMT Wed 18th Jan 2006

Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, commenting ahead of a speech by David Cameron on social justice, said "It is a bit rich for David Cameron to express concern about social justice and inequality when as a loyal lieutenant of Michael Howard and Norman Lamont he was personally involved in economic policy that made the problem worse.

"If he is at all serious about tackling inequality then the first thing he will need to tackle is the current regressive tax system, especially the unfair Council Tax system."
