Long overdue plans to protect vulnerable children and adults welcome - Gidley12.00.00am GMT Tue 7th Feb 2006
Commenting on today's announcement by the Government that a new registration, training and vetting system is to be put in place for the 750,000 people working with vulnerable children and adults, Sandra Gidley MP, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for older people, said "It is a scandal that vulnerable older people can become victims of abuse, so today's long overdue announcement is a welcome one as it is essential that staff working closely with these people are checked. "The current focus of regulation on process and physical environment at the expense of focusing on quality of care needs to change, and the Government needs also to recognise that extra costs are likely to be incurred if we are to ensure vulnerable children and adults receive the quality care they deserve."
