Lack of fresh proposals in women and work report - Gidley

3.36.14pm GMT Tue 28th Feb 2006

Commenting on the publication of a report by the Women and Work Commission, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Women, Sandra Gidley MP, said "There is little that is new in today's proposals. It is deeply disappointing that eight years of a Labour Government have seen little or no narrowing of the gender pay gap.

"The Liberal Democrats have proposed equal pay audits, which would highlight inequalities in pay, gender balances and promotions. Today's report is a half hearted cop out. It seems that pay audits are to be recommended in the public sector but not the private sector. We have to ask why companies are so reluctant to come clean?"
