Police reorganisations 'ill thought out' - Clegg

7.12.43pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 31st May 2006

Responding to the announcement that Clevelend Police are to seek a judicial review of the Government's police merger plans, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said "This is yet another nail in the coffin of the Government's ill thought out proposals for regionalising our police forces.

"The upcoming legal challenges demonstrate the force of feeling among police authorities and the public against these rushed and damaging mergers.

"It's time for John Reid to think again and drop these unpopular plans."
