Prime Minister tough on councils not on crime - Campbell10.01.30pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 5th Jun 2006
Commenting on the Prime Minister's threat that councils face funding cuts unless they produce Whitehall-compliant plans to tackle anti-social behaviour, Sir Menzies Campbell, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said "This is a smokescreen for a Government in turmoil. "The Prime Minister is getting tough on councils instead of tough on crime. "It is a sad reflection on nine years of Labour Government that Tony Blair has started financially threatening deprived areas which are already in need of every available penny to tackle crime and the causes of crime."
