Business call for action on emissions should be heeded - Huhne

5.52.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 6th Jun 2006

Commenting on the meeting between industrial leaders and Tony Blair, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said "Progressive businesses understand that climate change is an opportunity as well as a challenge, and that Britain should be among the leaders in developing new carbon free technologies.

"With Business, NGOs and opposition politicians united in the call for tougher action on climate change, why will Tony Blair's Government not do more to combat the threat?

"The Liberal Democrats have called for green taxes to rise, while allowing other taxes to fall, to help reduce emissions."
