Government must do more to meet G8 promises - Kramer

8.13.10pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 26th Jun 2006

One year on from the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Secretary Susan Kramer MP is calling for the Government to fulfil their G8 obligations.

Commenting Ms Kramer said "Gleneagles should have been the beginning of a process in which the richest countries tackled the challenge of world poverty. Instead, many of these promises look as though they will only be partially met, at best."

"If all these worthy sentiments are to have any credibility the US and the EU must use the next ten days of trade negotiations to make the Doha round a success."
