Keetch tables motion congratulating GoinGreen's10.09.28pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 28th Jun 2006 West Midlands Liberal Democrats MP Paul Keetch, today tabled a parliamentary motion congratulating GoinGreen's on selling more than 500 G-wiz electric cars in and around London and welcomes their plans to expand into the West Midlands. The GoinGreen G-wiz is the first mass produced, commercially available and one hundred per cent emission free electric car in Europe. It was recently voted 'most environmentally friendly car in the UK', and as well as being good for the environment it brings many benefits for consumers. The car can travel five to six hundred miles for the cost of a gallon of petrol, and their compact size reduces the difficulty of parking in city centres. Sustainable forms of energy use are essential in the modern world, due to the depletion of oil reserves and a growing awareness of the importance of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. "It is essential that we tackle climate change" said Mr Keetch. "I hope my colleagues will recognise G-wiz capabilities in helping towards a dramatic breakthrough in the fight against city air pollution and global warming and sign the motion." "I am delighted that the company has decided to move into Birmingham and I encourage all to do their bit for the environment and give the G-wiz a test drive." ENDS Notes to the Editor: Full text of EDM 2453 That this House congratulates GoinGreen's G-Wiz, the first mass produced, commercially available and emission-free electric car in Europe on selling more than 500 cars in and around London; welcomes GoinGreen's plans to expand into Birmingham; believes that the increased availability and use of electric emission-free cars reduces the damage done to the environment by petrol and diesel fuelled vehicles; recognises that the car helps to play a greater role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the transport sector if future targets for reducing emissions are to be met; and calls on the Government to encourage the use of electric cars, in particular through the introduction of on-street recharging points and tightening emission standards.
