West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate's success12.19.33pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 6th Aug 2006
West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt, has successfully completed a gruelling 23-mile Mountain Challenge, raising funds for WaterAid. The annual competition run by Severn Trent was held in the Derbyshire Peaks last weekend. Richard helped his team pass 28 other teams to finish first in seven hours 35 minutes, comfortably winning the 'A' class event. "This was my first time taking part, so I was lucky to be teamed with some experienced competitors and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Our team was able to raise around £800, enough to pay for twenty wells to be constructed in Ethiopia, where water is a scarce commodity. Around £35,000 was raised for WaterAid in total from the event, providing clean water where it is desperately needed in many parts of the globe," said Richard.
