Responding to the developing situation in Darfur, Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of the Liberal Democrats, said "Darfur is a serious challenge to the international community and the authority of the United Nations.

"While diplomats and governments debate - the violence, rape and mass dislocation continue unabated. United action from the Security Council is essential if humanitarian objectives are to be achieved."
