End sexual violence in Darfur - Kramer8.18.36pm GMT Mon 11th Dec 2006 On the 2nd Global Day for Darfur Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Secretary, Susan Kramer MP has described the sexual violence taking place in Darfur as abhorrent. Susan Kramer MP said "The level of sexual violence in Darfur is abhorrent. Women and girls are being routinely raped or forced into sexual slavery by the Sudanese Government's own militias. "We are calling for specialist gender units to investigate all cases of rape as the Peace Agreement demands, and for the Khartoum government to disband the Janjaweed militias immediately. "China and Russia must also be persuaded to place governance conditions on all aid and trade agreements with Sudan. The entire international community must come together if we are going to prevent another genocide. "African Union forces are so under-resourced they aren't even able to protect those in refugee camps. "The Sudanese Government must accept international support for the African Union mission. Protecting refugees, women and children must be the top priority."
