Human Rights Act does not stop police doing their job - Clegg

4.04.19pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 8th Jan 2007

Commenting on reports that police have refused to release photographs of two escaped killers, claiming it might breach their human rights, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said:

"It is pure and simple nonsense to suggest that the Human Rights Act is preventing the police from doing their job properly.

"Where a picture would be helpful to track down a suspect or escaped prisoner, it should be used.

"It is high time the police stopped perpetrating these myths about human rights."
