Cartoon protest verdict is correct - Clegg

4.16.57pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 8th Jan 2007

Commenting on the news that a man has been found guilty of soliciting murder during a London protest against cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said:

"This is a sound, strong judgement.

"There is simply no justification, under any circumstances, for such callous incitement to hatred and violence.

"This case has shown that there are, in some extreme cases, legitimate limits to freedom of expression in any liberal law-abiding society."
