Tory health plans could make the current situation even worse - Lamb11.24.55am GMT Mon 22nd Jan 2007
Commenting on the Conservative plans to scrap the Government's health targets, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said: "It was the fact that we had chronic under-investment under the last Conservative government which led to people having to wait far too long before diagnosis and treatment. "That in turn led to this Government imposing a mass of targets which in themselves have distorted clinical priorities. "The return of the Conservatives could lead to reduced investment, making the current unsatisfactory situation even worse." Applicability: this item refers to England and Wales. Due to devolution, detailed policy may be different in other areas of the UK.
