Lorely Burt MP - LIBDEMS LAUNCH BIGGEST EVER CONSULTATION ON CRIME IN SOLIHULL5.00.02pm GMT Tue 23rd Jan 2007 Local Liberal Democrats and Lorely Burt MP are carrying out the biggest ever consultation on crime in Solihull. Sir Menzies Campbell launched the "We can cut crime" campaign today and the Solihull MP will be writing to thousands of local people asking them for their experiences of crime. The Lib Dems have unveiled an effective five point plan to tackle crime in our area: 1) More police on patrol - don't waste billions on ID Cards 2) Take back our Town Centres - let communities close pubs and clubs that cause trouble. 3) Make sentences mean what they say - Life should mean life 4) Compulsory work and training in prison - to cut re-offending 5) More compensation for victims - paid for by prison work Lorely Burt MP said: "We are bringing the "We can cut crime" campaign to Solihull because we believe we need effective action in our area to tackle crime. This is the biggest ever consultation on crime that the Liberal Democrats have conducted. "Local people are fed up of living in fear of crime. We want to take effective steps to tackle crime by putting more police on patrol and taking action to take back our town centres and communities making them safer for local families. "Unlike the Conservatives and Labour who offer meaningless 'tough-talk' sound-bites, the Liberal Democrats are proposing effective action to tackle crime. "Most people simply do not believe Labour Ministers spinning their latest sound-bite on crime. After ten years of a Labour Government, it is clear that Labour haven't managed to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. "We need effective action to tackle crime. The Liberal Democrats offer five simple solutions. Local people can read more about our campaign at www.wecancutcrime.com"
