New powers for coroners welcome - Hughes

Commenting on the Department of Constitutional Affairs' proposals for new powers for coroners, Liberal Democrat Shadow Constitutional Affairs Secretary, Simon Hughes MP, said:

"Often lessons learnt from one tragedy can prevent another.

"New proposed powers for coroners to require information about actions taken after inquests to prevent future deaths will be a welcome development of the role of coroners in England & Wales.

"These plans are a way of doing more to make sure loss and suffering are not in vain."
