DCA Consultation Response - John Hemming MP, Chairman of Justice for Families

John Hemming MP, Chairman of Justice for Families, has issued a response to the publication of the Department for Constitutional Affairs Consultation Response paper today

"There is little confidence in the administration of Public Family Law," said Mr Hemming, "there needs to be a facility to discuss the judgment and proceedings that occur in Family Courts. There may be aspects of the proceedings that should run in private as is the case for Criminal Courts, but Public Family Law should be treated the same as the Criminal Law. The sanctions are frequently more severe than in the Criminal Courts."

"The so called expert opinion that is used in the Public Family Law Courts needs to be open to proper challenge. That cannot happen in secret. The assumption should be that the court runs in public with an option to move to private proceedings under limited circumstances."
