GOVERNMENT MENTAL HEALTH BILL U-TURN WELCOME - RICHARD BURT
11.58.31pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Jun 2007
A Government climb-down over mental health provision for children has been welcomed by local LibDem Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt.
Commenting on amendments to the Mental Health Bill published today, she said:
"This U-turn by the Government is long overdue. I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues have been pressing the Government for these vital changes in both the Commons and Lords.
"Many children are forced to choose between treatment on an adult ward or receiving no care at all. That is simply unacceptable.
"Children need a stable and secure environment to flourish - with specially trained staff to provide emotional, as well as medical, support. Adult wards will not provide this.
"There can be no further delay in introducing these important measures."
