DR COLIN HARRIS RECEIVES 'LOCAL HERO' AWARD AT WESTMINSTER CEREMONY4.32.08pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 10th Jul 2007 Solihull volunteer, Dr Colin Harris has received a 'Local Hero' award for his work to promote walking for health in the borough, including the 'Walking for Health' programme and Solihull Striders and Strollers. The award was made at a Heroes Tea Party held in the Members Dining Room of the House of Commons and was the seventh year of celebrating hero volunteers organised by The Experience Corps.
Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt attended the ceremony and congratulated Colin on his award "The Tea Party was launched as a result of the International Year of Volunteering in 2001. TEC had the idea to ask MPs to invite an older person from their constituency to the House of Commons to congratulate them on their outstanding work in the community and to celebrate them as older volunteers" said Lorely, "The event was a fantastic day for all the volunteer heroes and I was pleased to congratulate Colin on his deserved award for the fantastic volunteer work he has put in promoting fun walks for health in the borough."
