BURT IS GUEST SPEAKER AT PERSHORE & UPTON NFU5.15.00am GMT Wed 14th Nov 2007
West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt was the guest speaker at Pershore & Upton upon Severn NFU's AGM, held at Pershore College last night. Mr Burt acknowledged that 2007 had been a very difficult year for farmers in Worcestershire, and heard that TB infection and red tape were the two biggest concerns for branch members. Richard Burt said: "Only 8p in every pound spent on food by consumers goes to the farmer. The big four supermarkets must respond to criticisms by the Office of Fair Trading (OFAT) to give a farmers a fair deal." He said his party would create a Food Inspector within OFAT with new powers to ensure fair prices for food producers, processors, distributors and consumers.
