SOLIHULL MP BACKS CAMPAIGN FOR NEW MEDAL FOR AFGANISTAN AND IRAQ CASUALTIES

4.25.00pm GMT Tue 20th Nov 2007

Lorely Burt

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has signed up to a campaign in Westminster calling on the Government to award a medal to all armed forces personnel killed or wounded by enemy action in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Lorely Burt said:

"Coming hard on the heels of Remembrance Sunday, it seems an appropriate moment for Ministers to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that all who join the armed service are prepared to make when they are called upon to fight for their country.

"Members of the Army, Navy and Air Force never choose where they are sent to fight, but invariably show the same high levels of determination, loyalty and bravery whatever they are asked to do.

"Along with many MPs from all parties, I believe that those killed or injured doing their duty as a result of enemy action in these two countries should be awarded a bravery medal. I hope the Government will respond favourably by awarding a medal in recognition of the sacrifice made by increasing numbers in the course of their duty."
