COUNCIL PARKING BAN HITS LOCAL RESIDENTS3.05.28pm GMT Mon 3rd Dec 2007
Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has written to the Council's acting Chief Executive, Mark Rogers calling for an urgent review of an enforced parking ban effecting residents in roads off Charterhouse Drive. Mrs Burt has intervened because residents have complained after receiving parking tickets for parking outside their own homes. The parking ban was enforced by a decision of the Council's Cabinet this summer despite a petition asking for residents only parking permits instead of a total ban. Now at least five people have been fined £30 for parking outside their own home, despite many residents covered by the restricted parking area having no facilities to park their vehicles off the road. Lorely Burt MP said: "The Conservative controlled cabinet was warned by local residents about the problems this parking ban would cause, but took no notice. "Now we have the intolerable situation of people being fined for parking outside their own homes, even though they have no drives. "There was clearly a problem with cars parking in Chartehouse Drive, but this solution was always going to be a sledgehammer to crack a nut, and needs a common sense solution. "Yet again, the council has failed to listen to local people who are now suffering the consequences."
