SOLUIHULL MP HIGHLIGHTS DYSLEXIA AWARENESS WEEK

10.28.00pm GMT Mon 3rd Dec 2007

Lorely Burt MP

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has backed an all-party motion in Westminster calling for more specialist support in schools for children suffering from Dyslexia.

National Dyslexia Awareness Week runs from 5th to 11th November and seeks to highlight the concern of nine out of ten parents with dyslexic children who are dissatisfied with the support their children are getting at school.

Lorely Burt MP said:

"More than 1 million children in the UK have dyslexia, but too often these children are being denied a fair chance to achieve their potential through lack of specialised support in school, and because dyslexia support is not a statutory requirement.

"Some of our best known entrepreneurs, Sir Richard Branson and Jamie Oliver suffer from dyslexia and recognise the need to aim high for dyslexia suffers in the UK.

"Specialist dyslexia tuition can improve a dyslexic child's reading age by two years for just £600. Just imagine what could be achieved with increased support for dyslexic children in school."
