HUGE RESPONSE TO LORELY BURT MP'S HEALTH INQUIRY
6.27.00pm GMT Tue 15th Jan 2008
Lorely Burt MP has received a huge response to her Solihull-wide Health Inquiry delivered through letter boxes last autumn, with nearly 4000 completed surveys and dozens of letters and emails being returned. Results to the extensive Inquiry have now been analysed and a summary will be sent to local NHS Trust bosses to help them 'take the temperature' of residents experiences and opinions of NHS run services in the borough.
Lorely Burt MP said:
"It's so important to get future health care priorities right, and the best way to do that is to listen to local peoples' concerns.
"I have tried to ensure that most households in Solihull received a copy of my survey, and I am very please with the huge mailbag that I have received in response. It proves that health is a top priority for local residents, and I have been able to help with many individual cases that have been brought to my attention.
"People praised the work of our nurses, with a total of 92% saying they were satisfied or very satisfied with the nursing they received as an NHS patient.
"Despite problems with hospital super bugs most patients, 72% thought that staff were doing a good job keeping our hospitals clean.
"However, not all Government driven reforms appear to be working for Solihull residents. There are clearly not enough NHS dentists available. One third of respondents recorded having experienced difficulty finding an NHS dentist locally, either for themselves or for a relative.
"Only 6% thought the NHS was well managed, and a staggering 96% of people who completed the survey agreed with the Liberal Democrats that NHS services in Solihull should be run by local health professionals and locally elected health boards.
"My survey shows there is much to be proud of for all those working tirelessly within the NHS in Solihull today. I will do my best to ensure that the responses people have taken the time and trouble to provide will help shape an even better service for the future."
