SOLIHULL LIBRARY HOSTS OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS EXHIBITION

An exhibition to raise awareness of ovarian cancer was launched in Solihull Library last Saturday and will be displayed for two weeks.

The exhibition has been mounted by Shirley resident, Joelle Hill who suffered from the cancer before being given the all clear just one year ago after finishing her treatment.

"When I was diagnosed I looked up details on the internet and thought I was going to die, but the real message is one of hope, particularly if you can diagnose the cancer early on," said Joelle.

Lorely Burt MP, who helped launch the exhibition said:

"Symptoms can be quite commonplace such as feeling full, tummy or pelvic pain, but if persistent they should be reported to a doctor.

"The charity Ovarian Cancer Action aims to raise awareness of the symptoms amongst women, families and health care practitioners to encourage early diagnosis when survival rates are high.

"Sufferers can also contact Ovcome, a nationwide ovarian cancer support network."

Joelle has been invited to talk to Shirley WI about the cancer and is available for other women's groups who would like to learn more. She can be contacted on 0121 745 4264.
