YORK CAFÉ NOMINATED FOR BEST BRITISH BREAKFAST AWARD11.56.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 22nd Apr 2008
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt has entered his local 'greasy spoon', the York Café for a national Great British Breakfast Award. Richard, who calls in regularly with supporters after campaigning on the doorstep, decided to enter the York, in Worcester Road, Malvern Link, after he saw the competition advertised in The Sun newspaper on his last visit. "I turned the page as I was tucking in to my usual sausage, egg, chips and beans, and there was a coupon inviting nominations for prizes of £1,000 for the top ten British breakfasts. "Café owner, Paul Price thought I was joking when I suggested entering the York, but at £3.95 for the full works: egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, bread and butter and a mug of tea, I thought they must be in with a shout. "I get full up just reading the menu. It's a top quality fry up and brilliant value. "One of my friends loves to come up from London and eat at the York, and I know Paul does big breakfasts for parties on a day out to the races or other sporting occasions. "Paul could get a visit from undercover Sun tasters and if he does, I'm sure the quality of his breakfasts will stand up. The winners of the competition will be announced in June," said Richard. Commenting on the national increase in obesity and the government drive for healthy eating, Richard said, "I eat plenty of fruit and vegetables throughout the week, but a little bit of what you fancy every now and then never does any harm."
