LEIGH SINTON RESIDENTS STEP UP CAMPAIGN AGAINST 'INAPPROPRIATE' PLANS FOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

4.17.41pm GMT Tue 15th Jul 2008

Richard Burt

Over 200 residents have signed a letter of protest over expected plans by West Mercia Housing Group to build up to 13 homes on green space between Kiln Lane and Chapel Close in Leigh Sinton.

Michele Palmer contacted Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt and County Councillor Clive Smith for help when she heard about the plans and they have pledged their support.

Now Les Williams, George Pribojac and Michele together with invited neighbours intend to present their protest letter with over 200 supporting signatures to the next meeting of the Parish Council, on 22nd July, seeking their backing.

Michele Palmer said:

"This area of land is outside the village boundary and would deprive existing residents of green open space, magnificent views and relative tranquillity.

"Increase in traffic and the extra demand for services would threaten the quality of life and the dynamics of the village"

Richard Burt said:

"I hope the Parish Council will make their support for residents clear on this issue. There are already 400 new homes being built just across the fields at the old North Site in Malvern, so it hardly seems appropriate to encroach so directly on Leigh Sinton village.

"Now is the right time for residents to make their feelings known - leaving potential developers in no doubt as to the opposition they will face if they choose to go ahead with a planning application on this site."
