ELMDON PARK LANDMARK SET FOR PRESERVATION

11.29.30am GMT Tue 8th Dec 2009

An historic walled garden in Elmdon Park looks set for preservation following a request by Elmdon councillor, Glenys Slater

Cllr Slater asked the council to protect the remains of the walled garden for Elmdon Hall by adding the structure to the council's local list of buildings of architectural or historic interest.

Councillor Slater said she was "delighted" that the council's Conservation Committee will now recommend final approval for the move.

"I played in the park as a child, and still enjoy walking there," said Glenys. "It is part of our local heritage and should not be lost."

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt and local councillors visited the site with police last year following concerns over vandalism and graffiti to the site.

"This is a positive move that I hope the Council will endorse," said Mrs Burt.

A newly formed supporters group for the park will bid for funding to remove the unsightly graffiti without damaging the walls.
