Candidate Praises Pershore Volunteer Centre

3.11.00pm GMT Tue 8th Dec 2009

Richard Burt visited Pershore Volunteer Centre last week during its 25th anniversary year.

Richard was shown around by Centre Manager, Kate Walton and met volunteers and staff.

The activities carried out by Pershore Volunteer Centre are wide-ranging and include:

  • The recruitment and placement of volunteers.

  • Providing a Community Transport Scheme which includes a Social Car Scheme for those without a vehicle or unable to use public transport and an accessible minibus service for use by local voluntary and community groups.

  • Providing support services including a day centre for the elderly and a bereavement support group.

  • Identification of needs in the area, linking these to existing resources where possible and establishing new services if necessary.

  • Liaison with statutory and voluntary organisations, promoting and developing partnership working and contributing to new and existing partnerships.

  • Supporting a Resource Centre used by other voluntary groups for printing, duplicating, etc.

Commenting after the visit, he said: "The Volunteer Centre is at the heart of so many good things that support and enrich peoples' lives in Pershore.

"There is always a friendly welcome. Staff and volunteers are always on hand to help or to refer you to someone who can.

"Without their dedication and commitment, so many individuals and organisations would be left marooned without the support they need."
