Call For Action On Rural Gritting As Big Freeze Continues

12.57.00pm GMT Fri 8th Jan 2010

Richard Burt is calling for more action from local councils on gritting as the big freeze continues.

Richard said: "As the freeze extends across the county it's time to consider the plight of people stuck in rural areas away from the gritted highways.

"There are farmers and contractors out there more than willing to use tractors and JCBs to make rural roads safer, but councils will not co-operate by making road salt available.

"Some local authorities around the country are already doing this, and it's about time councils in South Worcestershire did the same."
